Mindrolling Monastery, also known as the Tibetan Buddhist Temple, is located at a distance of 9 km from Dehradun Railway Station in Clement town.  The monastery has breathtaking views of natural scenery considering that it is set amidst the foothills of the Himalayas. One of the largest Buddhist centers in India, Mindrolling Monastery is also being ranked as a spectacular tourist attraction. It was constructed by Kochen Rinpoche and few other monks in 1965 to protect religious & cultural understanding of Buddhism.As per the common belief, the monastery was designed by the combined effort of around 50 artists and took approximately three years to complete. The monastery is locally known as Tibetan Monastery and is famous for its architectural splendor. The walls of the monastery are spectacularly designed and depict the life of Lord Buddha. Built in Japanese architectural style, the monastery has a famous stupa known as the Great Stupa. It is 220 feet high and 100 sqr. feet wide. Hailed as the largest stupa in Asia, it has two acres of beautiful gardens spread around it. The entire stupa is adorned with Buddhist art. The monastery has five floors among which the first three floors are gold wall paintings while the fourth floor has an open platform from where one can behold magnificent 360-degree view of the Dehradun Valley.
