Badrinath – The Holy Place to Attain Moksha

Shri Badrinath dham is situated along the Alaknanda river at an elevation 3,133 meters above the sea level. Located in the Uttarakhand state, the shrine is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Known to the prime pilgrimage centre for Vaishnavites, Badrinath is the most visited temple of the char dham. The temple is flanked by Neelkanth peek and surrounded by two mountain ranges Nar and Narayan on either side.

Badrinath is also called Badri-Van as it is believed that Lord Vishnu once visited the holy place. The berry garden of the shrine is another attraction for tourists. There are lot many pilgrimage attractions in and around the shrine. A natural thermal spring called Tapt Kund is located on the banks of the Alaknanda river. Devotees take a dip in the spring which is said to have medicinal properties.

Hemkund Sahib is a place of religious significance, particularly for Sikh community people. The Lakshmana temple dedicated to Lakshman, brother of Lord Rama, is located near the Hemkund Sahib. On the banks of Alaknanda river, a flat platform called Brahma Kapal is there where Hindus perform last rites for their deceased ancestors. Matamurti temple is situated on the right bank of Alaknanda which is dedicated to the mother of Lord Badrinath.

Due to heavy snowfall, the Badrinath shrine remains closed during the months from October to March. Daily rituals are performed by the temple pujaris along with preparation and distribution of Prasad to devotees.

To reach Badrinath via air route, the closest airport is Jolly Grant airport in Dehradun located 317 km away. Rishikesh railway station is the nearest one which is just 295 km away from the Badrinath. Cities like Haridwar, Rishikesh and Dehradun are connected by road network to the main shrine.
