    The Central Jail of Gaya was built at a time when the British East India Company was ruling the country. The authorities of the Company were enthusiastic about introducing the concept of central prisons. Such a policy was brought into existence to house the convicted population for a longer period, as the central prisons are generally spacious in structure. Besides, they wanted to ensure that there are enough soldiers around so that they could be called upon in case of an emergency.

    The Gaya Central Jail is one of the greatest of its kind in the southern part of Asia. You may visit the jail during your vacation in Gaya, however you must keep certain rules in mind. The visiting hours starts from 10am and lasts till 5pm. You are not allowed to take photographs inside the prison premises, unless you have a permission letter signed by the authority. Get a chance to explore the interiors of one of the darkest corners of the country.
