Hosting approximately 1.5 visitors worldwide, the Grand Canyon Skywalk is a transparent, glass bridgeoverlooking Arizona’s Colorado River. This horseshoe-shaped bridge is located on the edge of the Grand Canyon.
After a helicopter ride through the Grand Canyon, businessperson David Jinconceptualized the now-famous Skywalk. The Hualapai Native American tribe commissioned and owns the bridge, and on March 20, 2007 leading tribe members and Jin made the first walk around the Skywalk.
The Grand Canyon Skywalk offers majestic views of the Colorado River and the canyon itself. Located approximately 4,770 feet above sea level, the Skywalk is a technical achievement. The Hualapai tribe has plans to expand the Skywalk complex to include a museum, movie theatre, gift shop, and numerous restaurants.
The Skywalk is a relatively remote site, an approximate three-hour drive from Las Vegas. The site is accessible through either shuttle busses or a driving permit from the Hualapai reservation. In addition to transportation expenses, tourists must also purchase individual entrance tickets, while group photos are available at the gift shop.
