The Bomdila Monastery was inaugurated in the year 1965. Over the years, this centre of meditation and religious practice has seen many famous Buddhist Lamas and monks to have visited the monastery for the sake of enlightenment. In fact, the monastery has not taken much time to emerge to be one of the biggest tourist attractions in Bomdila. It is believed that this temple is actually a replica of the Tsona Gontse Monastery, located in Tibet. According to the legend, the Bomdila monastery was originally constructed by the 12th reincarnation of Tsona Rinpoche. The monastery members mainly practice Mahayana Buddhism. Recently, a massive hall for prayer has been added to the original structure. One of the major attractions of the place is the Buddha Temple, which is situated within the premises of the monastery. The monastery comprises of three parts in total. They are Upper, Middle, and Lower Gompa. Buddhist temples and monasteries are the perfect places to experience some soul cleansing rituals and practices. Bomdila is not an exception. You might want to visit the Bomdila monastery during the Losar Festival, which is celebrated at the beginning of a year. This festival is organised to start a new year with blessings of the almighty and a clearer mind.
