More about Pakhui Wildlife Sanctuary, Bhalukpong and Historical Information

Pakke Tiger Reserve, which is widely known as the Pakhui wildlife sanctuary, is located along the foothills of the Himalayas, in the East Kameng district in Arunachal Pradesh. The sanctuary was originally a part of the Khellong Forest Division and later it was labelled as a ’sanctuary ’ in 1977. Recently in 2002, it has been declared to be a tiger reserve on basis of a proposal submitted in 1999.The reserve is gigantic in terms of size, as it covers almost 862 Sq Km; approximately 333 sq miles. The sanctuary is administered and protected by the Arunachal Pradesh Department of Environment and Forest. The name of the Pakhui Wildlife Sanctuary was changed into Pakke Wildlife Sanctuary Division in April 19, 2001, by the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh. What makes the place a special destination for wildlife lovers is that the Tiger Reserve has emerged victorious as it secured the India Biodiversity Award in 2016 under the category of ’Conservation of threatened species’. It was the sanctuary’s Hornbill Nest Adoption Programme, which helped it win the award. If you have ever been thrilled by the mysterious nature of the wild and wish to experience the thrill in real life scenarios, the Pakka Tiger Reserve should be in your list. Visit the place in summers to witness the real beauty of the place.
