    Coimbatore Central Jail is one of the oldest prisons located near Gandhipuram bus stand in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. The prison was constructed during Madras’s Presidency in 1872. Situated in an area of 167 acres, the prison can accommodate 2208 prisoners. The architecture of the prison is reminiscent of the British era, and the prison itself has been host to many prominent pro-independence figures. One of the most prominent figures to be imprisoned here is Chidambaram Pillai, also known as "The Tamil Halesman."
