    The Rock Garden of Chandigarh more commonly known as the Nek Chand garden, situated near the Sukhna Lake, is a beautiful Sculpture garden spread over 40 acres. Founded by Nek Chand in 1957, this garden has several interlinked man-made waterfalls, puddles and sculptures which are a speciality here as they are made from scrap like plastic bottles, auto parts, clay, coal, marbles, forks, frames, tiles, ceramic pots, electrical waste and accessories like bangles. The sculptures mostly resemble animals and humans, but some are great examples of abstract art. This garden is a vision of the kingdom of Sukhrani, started by Chand from recycled materials around the city. This make-believe kingdom has 14 chambers representing the Durbar, Royal poets and musicians’ chamber, swimming pool meant for the queen, pavilions and other areas for royal leisure. The Rock garden nestles amidst 20 acres of forest as an open air exhibition, exhibiting pure creativity and talent. In 1976 the garden was taken over by authorities and was inaugurated as a public space. The garden is now under the care of Rock Garden Society. This embodiment of imagination is open from 10am to 7pm on all days except Thursdays and public holidays.
