The Eravikulam National Park offers a diverse variety of flora and fauna and has also made its name in the list of UNESCO world heritage sites. Also known as Rajamalai Wildlife Sanctuary, the place used to be managed as a game reserve by Kanan Devan Hills Produce Company until 1971. After that, the government of Karnataka took over the place and declared it a national park in 1978.
The park accommodates a large variety of animals including elephant, Nilgiri langur, Nilgiri marten, Atlas moth (largest in the world), lion-tailed macaque, small-clawed otter and a rare tiger or leopard.
